Supporting Jewish Friends During Purim 2024

Purim is March 24-25, 2024

As Christians, one of the most important things we can do is to love and support our neighbours, regardless of their faith traditions. This command however is even more critical when it comes to our Jewish neighbours because God promises to bless those who love Israel! (Genesis 12:3).

With Purim around the corner, it's a great time to show our Jewish friends some extra love and solidarity.

Purim is a significant holiday for the Jewish community, celebrating the deliverance of the Jewish people from a plot to annihilate them. It's a time of joy, feasting, and giving back to those in need!

So, how can we, as Christians, support our Jewish friends during this festive time?

First off, take some time to learn about Purim. Read up on the story of Esther, understand the customs, and appreciate the cultural significance of the holiday. This not only shows respect but also deepens our understanding of our friends' beliefs.

Next, don't forget to wish your Jewish friends a Happy Purim! Whether it's a quick text, a heartfelt note, or even a small gift (we can help with that), let them know you're thinking of them during this special time.

If you're lucky enough to be invited to a Purim celebration, don't hesitate to join in the fun! From reading the Megillah to dressing up in costumes and enjoying delicious treats like hamantaschen, there's plenty to experience and enjoy.

And why stop there? Extend invitations to your Jewish friends for your own celebrations. Whether it's a holiday gathering or a simple dinner party, welcoming them into your home shows your inclusivity and appreciation for their friendship.

Supporting Jewish-owned businesses is another great way to show solidarity. Whether it's shopping for gifts or grabbing a bite to eat, your support goes a long way in strengthening community bonds.

Most importantly, let's stand together against antisemitism. Whether it's speaking out against hateful rhetoric or supporting initiatives to combat discrimination, let's show our Jewish friends that we're allies in the fight against bigotry. This year it is even more important to stand with our Jewish friends because many of them are suffering from the residual effects of the conflict in the Middle-East.

In the end, supporting Jewish people during Purim (and beyond) is about celebrating diversity and fostering understanding between different faith communities. So let's spread love, show kindness, and embrace God's chosen people and our shared destiny! Happy Purim, everyone!

Until All Hear,
Brady
